The Importance of Cognitive and Non-Cognitive Abilities

It is well established that cognitive ability is a strong predictor of student learning ability and school attainment.   Its predictive capacity is even greater than general intelligence or IQ.    However, without sufficient non-cognitive ability, the learning potential of students is likely to be compromised.

The webinar will discuss students’ underlying cognitive abilities (e.g. alertness, attention, memory, & executive functions) and non-cognitive abilities (e.g. confidence, conscientiousness, resilience, & mindset).   Information is provided on the importance, description and benefits of both cognitive and non-cognitive abilities for all students from Pre-school through to primary and secondary school.

Includes pre-recorded Q&A session with teachers, educators, and tutors.

Teacher-Student Trust vs
Teacher-Student Alienation

The trust between a teacher and student is believed to be the key to a learning partnership.  Trust is known to provide significant benefits.  For example, enhanced positive connection, increased student self-esteem, greater student engagement, and higher levels of student resilience.  But trust can be eroded by teachers, often unintentionally, and take time to rebuild.  Certain behavioural tendencies are known to erode trust, engagement and enthusiasm in others. In this webinar, we'll discuss the nature of teacher-student trust, trust erosion, and 11 behavioural and interpersonal patterns that can negatively affect trust.
